About

In his early days, Marc Williams first love was a baseball and a bat…until his brother Rob needed to practice for his deck hockey team. Throwing goalie equipment on his little brother (except a helmet), Rob constructed a goal with a hockey stick and two garbage cans then proceeded to fire a slew of shots past his kid brother and even hitting him in the face a couple times. As it turned out, Marc took a liking to stopping the puck. He ended up playing goal in deck hockey when he was in 4th grade and rarely wore a mask. Eventually he’d move out to play forward, where his fire and determination was always on display (all positives and negatives).

His next love formed when he got his hands on the 1989-90 New York Rangers video yearbook called “Poised for Glory”. Marc watched it over 40 times in the summer of the 90 to the point when he would quote all of Darren Turcotte’s stats. Whether it was playing NHL Hockey on Sega Genesis or Hockey League Simulator on his father’s computer, Marc couldn’t get enough hockey! In 1992 and 93, he got his first taste of the playoff disappointment before the Rangers reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1994. Celebrating the Stanley Cup with his brothers was one of the best experiences he could remember.

From there, Marc would go on to play in multiple levels of ice hockey, which he still players in beer league today, wishing he was as good as he was 10 years ago. His love of hockey has taken him to the Great White North in Toronto and Montreal, Las Vegas, Belfast and London with great experiences in all those cities. His favorite team was the back-to-back Town of Oyster Bay Championships in 95 and 96 with the Hicksville Stars in High School. In the 1996 inaugural Nassau Cup, Marc scored the game tying goal against the Masspequa Chiefs in the championship game, but his beloved Stars fell late in the 3rd period to their rivals.

During the 2020 lockdowns, Marc began the All Things Rangers YouTube channel, but in January of 2021, he brought in his friend John Filkowski to start the ATR broadcasts. Two months later, he brought in Anthony LaRocco (Filk’s old podcast partner) and the show began to flourish. In August, the ATR podcast was renamed to Big Apple Hockey.

With the future looking bright for Big Apple Hockey, Marc cannot wait to see where this podcast and travels will lead!
